John Brown - Managing Director
Architect

Born and bred in Chichester John Brown has been behind some of the most beautifully designed and crafted properties in the area since setting up his architectural practice jbA in 1999.

John is a hugely experienced RIBA Chartered Architect who has been in practice for over 25 years; his extensive work stretches from residential new builds, extensions and refurbishments to commercial offices and manufacturing facilities to agricultural diversification projects.

He is an ARB Member, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Studies from Cardiff University. His work has also taken him to Southern California where he completed a 2 year stint.

Having grown up in Chichester John has a detailed knowledge of the surrounding area and understands the complexities of obtaining planning permission in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), Harbour Conservation Areas and the South Downs National Park.




Nat Ellis - Director
Head of 3D Visualisation

Nat joined jbA in 2003 a few years after John Brown set up the practice in Chichester.

As Head of 3D Visualisation, he specialises in photorealistic 3D rendering. He has taken the lead in expanding jbA's 3D Visualisation capabilities, and in recent years has been a guest speaker at SketchUp 3D Basecamps in Canada, the USA, Japan, and Europe where he has presented on 3D Rendering.

Nat oversees the 3D Visualisation at JBA, and produces 3D photorealistic images for all jbA’s clients which has become a vital part of the jbA design workflow. Nat qualified at Brighton University and has over 25 years of experience working in the industry, on both commercial and residential projects, and over the last 20 years Nat has worked on many of jbA's award-winning projects.

Nat is always looking at ways to extend his skills in 3D visualisation and continues to add to his expertise in this field. In addition to overseeing the 3D Visualisation, Nat also has many years of experience in the preparation of planning applications in line with the local authorities' guidelines.




Cara Davies - Director
Architect

Cara joined the practice in 2014, having previously gained experience working in a wide range of architectural practices in London and Berlin. 
After completing her BA Hons in Architecture at Kingston University, Cara went on to graduate from London Metropolitan University with her Professional Diploma in Architecture, and completed her Final Professional Examination in Architecture at The University of Portsmouth. 

With experience in high-quality residential design, Cara manages projects from initial concept design through to on-site contract management, ranging from historic properties which require a sensitive design approach, to innovative new build constructions.



Joe Pretorius
Architectural Designer

Joe joined jbA in 2014 having achieved a 1st Class Honours Degree in Interior Architecture & Design from the Arts University Bournemouth.

He has established himself as a key member of the jbA team, with keen eye for detail in everything he does. Joe will take projects from initial design concept all the way through to practical completion, with knowledge of planning policy, building regulations and site supervision. He is a competent 3D visualiser, producing photorealistic 3D visuals that enhance the design process for the client.

He is highly organised and endeavours to make sure this is reflected on every project he works on, whether it is working to a strict programme on site or managing all finances as contract administrator.

Joe has a passion for the conservation of historical buildings and has worked on numerous listed properties, dealing effectively with the challenges they present.
